Off the Top of My Head

In no particular order:

1.  The tornado sirens are going off as I write this.  It seems like the sirens have gone off at least once a week for the past month, and it’s getting very old.  We lost power for at least 10 hours last night, and I hope we don’t lose it again tonight.  Fortunately, Charlotte is completely oblivious to severe weather, which is definitely a blessing!   I was in Memphis on Monday with my boss because we were meeting with clients, and the storm seemed to come out of nowhere.  We were headed back a little before 1 p.m. and listening to the radio for weather updates and realized we were basically driving into the bad weather.  Awesome.  Of course I was thinking about Charlotte the whole time and praying that she was safe and that everything was fine.  When we got back to Jackson, my boss was kind enough to take me by the daycare so I could go see her.  I found her in the basement, and the workers told me she had been sleeping for most of the time they were down there, and I was so relieved.

2.  I haven’t worked out since my first Couch 2 5k workout last Tuesday.  There just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day for everything, and I am feeling overwhelmed and discouraged.

3.  I feel like I will never lose the weight.

4.  I think Charlotte gets cuter every day.  Look at her on Easter:

It’s almost too much cuteness to handle!

5.  I feel kind of like a bad mother when people ask me, “Is Charlotte sleeping through the night yet” and I have to respond in the negative.  I think the longest stretch of sleep she’s gotten is 6 hours, and that was only once.  We get excited if she’ll sleep for 4 hours.

Those are some things on my mind?  What’s on your mind?

  1. I have a feeling you're a great mom! Four hours of uninterrupted sleep actually sounds pretty decent…but of course I'm sure you're excited for the day when you do get a little more sleep. 🙂

  2. TOTALLY NOT A BAD MOM AT ALL!!!!!!! 4 hours is AWESOME!!! With Caleb, I was lucky to get 3 in a row….He did not sleep through the night until he was a year old! You are doing a FANTASTIC job!!! 🙂 Just remember, EVERY baby is different!

  3. My 7 month old doesn't sleep through the night..nuf said about that.

I didn't workout for the first 2 months I went back to work. It takes a while to get adjusted. I say give yourself some time to get use to being back at work and then work on the exercise part. I had to start squeezing mini workouts in over my lunch break. Some days it's only 20 minutes…but better than nothing.

  4. You are NOT a bad mom at all! Troy is 3 months and doesn't sleep through the night and he started waking up once a night at like 2 months. Every baby is different. I even have a girlfriend who has a 1.5 year old and she still wakes up 3-4 times a night

  5. You are going through a very normal process and all of the things that are on your mind now will soon change as you move forward. Just enjoy every minute of being a Mom. No two babies are alike – that is why each one is so special and loved by their parents regardless of how the compare to anyone else's child.

  6. Girl–it takes time for her to sleep through the night. AND, sleeping through the night is considered about 6 hours straight at this point. So, remember that. People sometimes don't know what to ask–and have no frame of reference. Someone asked me if Mark was on a schedule at 6 weeks, and I was like, “What schedule?”

Traci is right. It takes time to adjust to being back at work. It's HARD! I've been back 6 months, and it's still challenging. I've figured out I can't work out unless I take Mark with me (e.g. stroller or jog stroller). So, give yourself lots of grace.

    Big hugs to you!
